Shifting Gears — Paulina Brie Kriebel

Textile artist Paulina Brie Kriebel has been making wearable art clothing since 1992, after completing her BA in apparel design. She’s experimented with hand-printed T-shirts, silk garments, and accessories, and in 2004 she shifted to appliqued embellishment, the result of exploring quilting techniques.
These pieces featured “mini quilt” appliques on the front and back utilizing handprinted or silkscreened images and custom dyes. Her work reflected
imagery from Africa, Japan, the Pacific Northwest, and nature.

Kriebel has participated in numerous craft fairs on the West Coast, from Seattle to Los Angeles, and many quilt shows both locally and nationally.
The events of 2020 derailed her usual schedule of 16-18 shows a year and unexpected cancellations led to an open schedule for creating. She took this time to pursue bigger projects. She turned her steady “work ethic” to producing large quilts for the rest of the year, learning new techniques, and accumulating a (still growing) stack of finished quilts.
